Wing Vent Grills, anybody?

Prototype wing vent grill. 70mm at it's widest, with a honeycomb grill pattern. It should be done in later this evening. I'll post a picture when it's done... if I remember.

oooo.....now that is cool. It says Wing / vent grill...but where would it go on the wing?

I have to say I really like the idea of printing custom parts like this. On my blue Nova I have a number of "Air Escape" vents to allow air pushed through the radiator in the hood area to escape and create better air flow and cooling. I used wire mesh grill and tried as best as I could to neaten them up with rubber U-Channel around the edges. However doing it like this takes it to a whole new level of OEM finish *thumbs up*

Maybe wing is the wrong term? Hip vent? Rear vent?

Here's the finished vent. It needs some cleaning up though, I got some stringing and a few blobs, but it looks really good and fits nice and snug, nothing more than a press fit.

Ooops. Technical difficulty with uploading pics, on my end.

Nic,

You have spiked my interest in 3D printing, I always knew it was cool but never thought a prosumer could get the skills to do it well. A few questions if you don't mind :-

1) What model printer do you use and what does it cost?
2) Are the consumables expensive as per most printers?
3) Do you have to become a CAD expert to really use it?
4) Did you do a CAD course?

Sorry for so many questions but in my mind I am already planning a parts printing list :D

Cheers

David

Actually it's all done in the slicer program, I'm using Simplify3D. I set the top and bottom layers to 0, the honeycomb is the infill pattern. I adjusted the infill % to... I think 30 or 40% and did 8 or 10 outer layers.

That vent looks great are you doing something similar for the nostril vents. I like the ones Dave carrys but I really don't want chrome or aluminum visible on my car
