What's new

We all can now upload videos directly into posts(!)

For the longest time, the only way we could add videos into posts was to give the url for a video that was hosted on a separate site (like youtube.) I had tried several times to enable the ability to directly post videos to the forum. There are various settings and permissions to make it work, none of which seemed to make it work. Today, while searching for other information, I read a post where a forum owner was having the same problem. Well, turns out that after enabling videos and choosing size limits and giving all of the relevant permissions, admin needs to also set up the "editor" section to actually show the friggin button for adding video. I kinda thought that would show up automatically when one enabled videos. Yeah...nope.

Anyhow, what this all boils down to is that we should all be able to add videos of our car projects directly from our phones as easily as we would upload a photo. To add a video, just click the icon that looks like a little video camera with a plus on it.

I'm excited to finally have this (deceptively simple thing) solved.

Some videos still might not post if their format isn't on the list of accepted formats. I can add to that list if necessary. Let me know (anyone) if you have any problems.

Enjoy!

My computer with windows 10 operating system has no issues with it but my computer with XP operating system doesn't like it.

I get "No video supported format and MIME type found" with the XP operating system.
No biggie. I'll just use the windows 10 system if and when I post videos.

Interesting. Good feedback. Thank you. There’s a chance I might be able to fix that by adding an additional format. I’ll play with it when I’m in front of my desktop and remember to.

Here's a forum post I found related to Brett's error, it looks like microsoft didn't release a patch for WinXP that allowed Firefox to decode mp4 videos. If he is using Firefox, that's probably the issue and there are some addons that could get around it. If it isn't Firefox, then I have no idea. Still sounds like an XP error, not a site error.

Thanks. That’s good feedback as well. I’m predominantly a Mac guy and therefore that nuance wouldn’t have been the first thing that came to mind.

More than anything I’m glad we have a way to just shoot a clip on our phone and immediately add it to a post from our phone (as it should be nowadays.) 🙂

Thats what I have (Firefox)
Even Firefox has stopped supporting XP.
I'll do a search and see if I can find any other browsers that will work with XP
I tried using internet explorer a while back and Windows has shut it down so it wont even work anymore. Thats how I came to using Firefox.

I've done some research on this and I guess with the advancements in technology the newer formats will not work with the old school stuff.
I tried downloading different browsers that were suppose to work with XP and still had issues with viewing videos.
So I guess XP is going down the same road as the vacuum tube.
Well at least I can still play solitaire with it.
So Warren don't waste your time with it.
