Part two of the floor, is the carpet. I really wanted a finished factory look to it, so I decided to order a reproduction carpet kit for a bug and see how it fit. I was pleased to find it actually works really well.
There are some mods to using the kit that I will share. The front section just fits. I love having a heal pad and tailored fit around the pedals.
The center carpet section lays down, just like in the Bug, but comes up short on either side due to the dropped floor pan. The kit comes with outer kick panel carpet sections that are not needed since that part of the Bug is removed for the drop floor. If you trim up this piece and flip it backward it perfectly fits in the section that comes up short for the floor. (see pics) The seam for this area is 90% covered by the seats.
The carpet sits tight and flush with no screws or glue to hold it down. All edges have the factory seam that looks clean and professional. The kit was 90 bucks and went in in about two hours. It would have been less if I didnt have to fight with my center console to tuck the carpet up and under. This makes it easier to pull out to work on the car or replace.
