Hello! Welcome, and congrats on the car.

You’ll probably need to fashion a custom cable, but that might not be as difficult as you’d think. There is a huge aftermarket for products for dune buggies, many of which are based on VW Bug chassis and components. It’s been probably 25 years since I bought a cable like that but I remember having a selection of “universal” dune buggy throttle cables that have the correct end for the VW pedal and then have just a bare end on the other. I remember it coming with a choice of a few ends that either crimped on or had little hex set screws. Anyhow, on one hand, no, I don’t know specifically what will solve your particular needs but I’d say focus on Bug/dune buggy cables rather than one that matches the engine (which will be too short.). The last thought to add to that is that you MIGHT need to source a cable that matches the engine if for nothing more than to harvest a fitting for the end of it (and then crimp or silver-solder it to the end of the dune buggy cable …AFTER fishing it through the throttle cable tube in the chassis, which starts near the throttle pedal.)

Sorry if that seems rambling. Re-read it if needed. Hope this helps.

The only help I can give at this point is to pull the cable and see what you have and see if it was modified to fit.
Do you have the stock VW gas pedal or an after market one??

Find out why the cable broke. Maybe the new cable will need to be routed differently and/or length needs to be adjusted.
A properly installed cable should last for a long time.
Not that hard to make a custom cable.

Looks very similar to mine!! Mine is registered as an 86. Serial 455. Apparently only 500 were made! If I can offer any help, reach out!
