Because of my location it is of the up most importance that the cooling system is working at its max efficiency.
I tested 4 different thermostats trying to find one that would open when the specifications said it was suppose to.
The oem Subaru thermostat won.
All were marked as opening at 170*f
Subaru opened at 177*f The next closes was Gates at 184*f
Also to note, when the Subaru thermostat opened it opened 100% (or close to it). Temps went from 177*f and dropped to 163*f before it closed. This repeated till temps stabilized.
When the Gates opened the temps didn't drop, Temperatures just hung around 184*f.
So the most accurate thermostat was the OEM Subaru. Also a thing of interest is if the Subaru thermostat should fail its suppose to fail in the open position
Just a bit of info that might be of interest to some
