I was thinking, again. What about flush fitting 'touch' switches rather than rocker or buttons?

Any specific style, brand or model that you were thinking of??

I'm listening*thumbs up*

I'm thinking of having the outside edges of dash wrapping around to the sides then blending into the canopy's lines. Something similar to what the stock dash did. Then put some switches in that area, again similar to what the stock dash has.

Something like these? Come in a variety of colors and push on connectors. I have these in my dash.

I like those *thumbs up*

I'd like them more if they had symbols on them like these, But trying to find symbols that you need on them is harder than I had thought

Switches.jpg

Found this place that will put just about anything you want on the switch but they are in Australia and the switches aren't cheap. At least for me they aren't
I'll have to sit down and figure out how many I'll actually need I guess.

Issues like the headlight switch. Should I switch that out for the same style as the push button switches so I don't have any conflicting looks of switches in the car*hmmm*

Thanks Nic for the input and help

When I was in radio, back in the 1990's, and building our promotional van, I had found a switch bank that were touch sensitive..as a result, they were almost flush to the dashboard and pretty slick in appearance. Juyst something to google search for

Thanks

I did some searching and all of the cool stuff is available everywhere but here in the states. Yes I could order it but by the time I pay for the item + shipping + duty taxes it becomes real pricey.

I'll keep looking, but in the mean time I came across what has to be the smallest OEM light switch that I've found so far. Its out of a Volvo V70. Didn't find one wired for a fog light. The car had a separate switch for that

EDIT:

Forgot to mention its wired in the old way, using relays. No CAN or Serial Data network to mess with.

I wish it was, but no it's not.

High beam switch is. I have no idea what they were thinking of
I had the same problem, indicators and dip on the left stalk but the light switch was a bloody great knob on the side of the cowl, now a flick switch on the console. all things are possible.

Like the other switch Brett, would make a nice central feature in the console, similar to the one on my Mercedes A class, which also only has 'pull for fog on' option not 'rear / front & rear'. My 1987 BMW E30 has two separate buttons for front and rear fog fed from sidelight, which of course they should be, as does the SS with a flick on-off-on switch next to the side/head switch.

Going to be interesting which way you are going with this.

I did try and search for 6th generation Fiesta stalks before I posted and couldn't find a good photo to see for sure, so they obviously regressed as earlier Fiesta's had them on the stalks

I did do a search for wiring diagrams on the car to find out what year they started to put fog lights in the car and came up with a date of 2014.
I didn't look to see if they change the design of the stalks though.

The newer the car was the more complex the CAN system became, hence the reason I'd like to stay with the year I have. I never have checked to find out the beginning year that the car was made though and check out the wiring for that year. It may be better than the year that I have.

The thought of putting it in the center console has come up.

I'm still considering it but, in the mock-up stages I'm not getting that warm fuzzy feeling with it.
Maybe with the right bezel around the switch it might look better.

I do have another option(location) for the light switch that I'm considering that I think will really look good in the car.
Not ready to make it public right now.

Brett,

A great find on those speakers, they blend in really well with the lines and balance out the whole look of the dash. I see all the remnants of the lower beige dash are gone, so no need to work out how to separate the two now ;)

The centre console lines and it meeting the grab handles have worked out well too. However from my own perspective the light switch doesn’t work as placed, it’s kind of plonked on and shouts Kit Car rather than OEM to me. Sorry just my 2 dents worth. Is it on the pedestal as there is insufficient clearance below?

It took a little work to get those speakers to fit the way you see them but I think they look good and go with the geometric shapes of the dash.

I saw no reason to keep any of the beige section of the dash, plus getting rid of it gave me more leg room.

Not to happy with the light switch either. I have another idea for the switch to try out that will make it more flush to the console.

Switch was put on a pedestal to level it out and to make it easier to see. Because of the forward slant of the console the switch would have been facing away from the driver if put in flush.

Getting your 2 cents was the reason for posting :D.

Looking great as usual Brett. *thumbs up*

I like the switch idea, very much in keeping with modern styling (although usually used for drive options). but recess it in a bit, kinda looks 'plonked on' at the moment.

I'll make changes to it. Thanks

Always enjoy your terminology of things.

I find it interesting and enjoyable how others from different parts of the world describe things.

'plonked on' *thumbs up*

Very nice progress. I'll be the one who says that I'm ok with the light switch there. Sort of mimics the BMW iDrive controller... either way, I know you'll come up with something cool!

Another way to make it look more BMW iDrive like is change the knob with something like these, I bought some of these to use as heater controls on an earlier incarnation of my dash that I didn't use in the end.. The finish would sort of tie in with bits of the dash / grab handles also
