I thought I had a good sense of the various different Nova/Sterling/Cimbria/Sebring models. I do not believe I've seen this door and side window version before. Fully custom? Or was there a version like this? Kudos to the various items here, including the front intakes, and the doors. My vote is still out on the rear tail light treatment. But admittedly, I rarely see any that I like.

The doors on this are from the imagination of the second(++) owner. This car was actually the prototype of the model that was the actual GT. But it originally had a canopy like all other Sterlings. It was then owned by an aircraft mechanic for many, many years who converted it to scissor doors. It’s not bad work but it’s still a shame that a “historically significant” Sterling model got cut up. Still a neat project, though.

If only that Sterling GT was in its original condition, with canopy and rotary engine, I would be all over it.

Meh. It would be cool to have a fresh GT right out of a mold, but what we really need is a whole new modern variant. Don’t worry; it’s on its way. 🙂

I've been hearing about this new modern version for as long as I've been on this site. Get going with it already, we are not getting any younger. Let's see something.

Ha! It’s true that I’m shy about photos of progress. There will be a moment when the time is right to share more.

I give the project about 1-2 hours per day on average. This month has been dedicated to hood louvers and mocking up the lower nose section. It’s coming along.

I’ve stretched the new car about 9 inches and widened it by about 6 inches. The chassis is custom but it will use tried-and-true suspension parts off known cars where possible. Front suspension is likely to be a derivative of Mustang II because there is such an excellent aftermarket already established for it. Rear suspension will depend a little on the engine used. There is enough new space available that theoretically you could use almost any FWD engine and trans — but essentially in a mid-engine configuration. I’ve always been a fan of Subaru running gear and can almost guarantee that variant but the first car will have a transverse V8 from a Grand Prix GXP unless something else catches my eye between now and then. So far 99% of the focus has been on fabricating the new body. All else will follow. The new engine bay is so friggin big that I’m trusting the mechanicals can be made to work in that sandbox. Roofline, rear styling, headlights, and hood are solved and fabricated but not perfected. I’m now moving to styling below the belt-line. Front and rear valences have been significantly mocked-up already and the side skirts have been played with on photos. I “just” need to make the actual bucks for those.

The whole project started with a fresh original body (well, two-and-a-half new bodies), and the new car pays very heavy tribute to the original. It is radical by some measures, but it is not a radical departure from styling which many of us already love.

But the take-home message is that a physical prototype very much exists. 🙂

Very nice indeed. Can't wait to see it and perhaps place an order.
What is the plan for the windshield?

I think we kind of hijacked this members post. (I think that's the word that's used when you go off on another topic in someone else's post)
