I started my rebuild 2 months ago when I bought my first Sterling. I had the body off the rotted but running 69 vw chassis in less than a week of bringing it home

these pics are the day after I brought it home. The car under the cover is my Kelmark

the Kelmark sat on a tube chassis with a vw front suspension and a built sbc 350 sitting on a Toronado tranny. That by far was the unsafest setup ever put into the back of a car. It was very fast on the straight run but when turning or getting on the gas there was literally no steering because it was so rear heavy. I sold the chassis and drivetrain to a guy that was putting it under a gt40 replica. My original plan was to do a true mid-engine setup with it until I saw a Sterling for the first time. It was love at first sight:eek:.
So I found my Sterling in Ohio about 4 hours away and went and bought it. It is so much better of a fit and finish compared to the Kelmark. The Kelmark body has been sold to help fund the rebuild on the Sterling.
After getting it apart and doing some measuring I decided to go with a 3800 engine with a transverse tranny setup. I have a guy in Dallas that is getting my engine and tranny tweaked and ready for the car. I bought an 06 series3 supercharged 3800 engine with 13k miles on it and a 4t65e-hd tranny with 4k miles on it. He is changing the cam out for me and as well adding a stage 2 intercooler, northstar throttle body ,headers and a few other power building options. Im not even gonna go into costs on that part:D
The tube chassis will be getting under way shortly. Will post pics as the build progresses
