NEVERMIND... THESE ARE PNEUMATIC. SORRY.

Amazon led me to this site somehow.

http://www.automationdirect.com\

They have stainless steel (appears to be) hydraulic pistons for $30 - $40 in various bores/strokes.

This one has a 3/4" bore and an 8" stroke for $31.50. A 10" stroke is $34.00.

They also have mounting brackets, clevis', etc. If you are going hydraulic, might be worth looking into.

Oddly, I've heard of some people converting pneumatic to hydraulic with little effort. Never tried it... guess I should read more into it!

More dead thread revival....

Looking again at pneumatic cylinders, they do have flow control valves. In theory it would keep the canopy from SLAMMING shut and VIOLENTLY opening. (all capitalized words are interchangeable I think).

For instance, this cylinder . Pressure rated at 250psi. 2 are more then enough to open the canopy I think and $25 each. Threaded ends and rear pivot with pin and mounting hardware available.

and one of these flow/speed control valves

You'd also need a tank and compressor and something to operate the flow control, I guess you'd have to find what the tuners use for pneumatic suspension. Whatever those things are called (brain-farting the name).

Yes? No?

I reckon I should have posted my solution here... two pneumatic cylinders operated by the hydraulic system. Flowing "regular" jack oil as the hydraulic solution since it's the least corrosive of all the possible liquids. The next time I'm on the car I'll see if I can get the model numbers - found them on evilBay for about $50 a piece, but they are Parker made so the quality is there. So far, so good!

The control valves probably wouldn't work for hydraulics, though. They might, but there are simpler in-line control valves available meant for liquid immersion.
