Removable side windows

Since the beginning of time (...okay, perhaps an overstatement), man has searched for a way to make the side windows of a Sterling easily removable. People have tried various, small alterations of the little hinge tabs that hold the window in place...or added wing nuts or knurled knobs to the attachment points...or tried to make two piece windows or little sliding flaps. But as a group, we've never found a perfect solution for this issue.

Benefits of having a window that easily slides out are mainly 1) it's nice to drive around with them out and 2) it would provide an easy alternative escape route if the top doesn't go up.

For years I've been trying to think up a way and/or find an existing product that would allows the window to be quickly removed without a lot of pomp and circumstance.

Dave at Sterling Sports Cars has found a hinge/clasp that should work quite well.

I also recently bought a Cimbria SS and found that it already has a simple, clever mechanism for removing the window -- it is hung on pins and simply lifts up, back, and out. (It doesn't seem to be a security risk because you can't slide it out unless it has already been opened from the inside).

Anyway, I don't want to add redundant information to this post, but HERE is a link to some photos and a video of the Hinges on my SS.

Please feel free to continue any discussions of the window hinges here in the post you are currently reading (so it's easy for everyone to find in the appropriate tech section).
