Bonded the front and rear sections of the rear spoiler together, trimmed it up and got it sanded.
Brushed on some duratech to seal some of the exposed urethane foam on the engine lid. Blocked it out and sprayed the entire part so I can get it blocked and ready for mold making.

Cut and fitted a new sunroof in Rays car today. At first I was kind of on the fence about sun roofs but after we had it in there I though it looked pretty good. Being a bald guy I'm not a big fan of the sun shining on my head but I think The additional air flow on the beautiful cool days will be a bonus.

You beat me to it. My side windows are removable, but my sunroof comes out much faster.

Engine opening lip.

After cutting part of the rear deck for the dual carbs I decided I wanted a raised lip around the opening like most boat hatches have to help keep the water out. A few weeks back I made a quick mold around both side of the opening to help form the new raised lip. Today, I secured the molds to the top deck and cut some wood to fit the straight sides front and rear. I covered it all with aluminum tape and waxed it. Next I laid up what will become the raised lip around the opening. The lip will only be about 3/4 of an inch tall.

It will be nice to keep the water off the motor and air cleaners. I will have a couple of drain pipes to route the water away.

Been a while.

Been a while since I have posted or even done much to Ray's car.

Other then getting the motor together and running and the cam burned in we haven't done much to the body.

Spend a few hours today closing in the drivers side wheel well like I did on #114.
Laid up a sheet of glass 4 layers of 1.5oz mat.

Made a card board template of what I needed and cut out the pieces I needed from the fiberglass sheet.

Attached the new pieces with some drywall screws and a backer board which will get removed later.
We also filled in multiple holes in the body so every things will look real neat and clean. Got 1 layer of glass on to keep everything in place. Next I will follow up with 2 layers of glass over everything.

Priming Parts

Spent the first half of the day working on Rays car. Sanding and prepping parts so we can get some primer on them.



Its been a while since we have gotten anything done on Rays car. Parts sure look good in fresh primer.

11.14.19 Seats

Got the new Cimbria seats made for Rays car from the new mold.
6 layers of 1.5oz mat and 2 mil core mat in the base and back to add stiffness.
I haven't had access to a chop gun lately so its all had laid. Takes soooo much more time.
So long as the finished product is nice, that's all that matters.

Wow, 6 layers and a core mat. That thing will be indestructible. Why do much?

Its not as thick as you think. Keep in mind it had laid so it not resin rich like chop. The only support may just be the bolts down to the floor. The seat bottom even has 2 core mat. I want it to be strong and not flexible. The original seats were made with chop and even heavier and thicker. Getting in and out of the car I tend to use the seat for support. So I think it will be perfect.

Worked on sound deadening / waterproofing of Rays pans and rear battery and pump locations and got the seat bases mounted. We had to make a drop box for his pump so it could fit in the rear shelf storage area.

Rays seats are done and I have to say they look fantastic! These are original style Cimbria seat shells which I made a few weeks ago. We choose yellow stitching for the diamond pattern and a different style head rest then what I did for the race car seats.

For anyone who may be interested these seats run $1500 for the pair. The seat shells are brand new and custom upholstered with a top stitch color of your choice.





They look very proportional in the car unlike when we try and put some type of factory seat which are to wide at the base and appear so big inside the small cabin of a Sterling or Cimbria. These are made from a mold off the original Cimbria seat and they are pretty comfortable.

Disc Brakes

Ray decided to swap out his 4 lug front discs to Chevy 5 lug and upgrade the rear drums to 5 lug Chevy discs. This way he doesn't have to run adapters. We also added a proportioning valve. I just think he was jealous of the #69 car!











This was done months ago. Ray gets credit for the yellow spray paint!

Ready for paint.

I sprayed some white sealer on some parts and got some fish eyes. So I laid on some black guide coat and blocked them again. We are ready for some sealer and top coat.









Stuff happens! Could have been a diesel truck drove by while I was painting or perhaps a dirty gun. Who knows!

Time for paint.

Started getting some paint on Ray's parts. The hood does not have clear coat yet.
We will see if I can get it painted before the end of the year.









Both side pods are also painted and 1 is cleared already.
