Questions about stock headlights

I'm a big fan of the pop up headlights of the sterling. They're so unique and sleek. Roughly 90% of the sterlings ive seen for sale have had them removed in favor of fixed bulbs with plexiglass inserts in front of them. To each their own but I find it hard to believe personal preference is 90/10 for fixed headlights over pop ups. Now The closest thing I've had has been the pop-up headlights in my 97 Ford Probe. As far as the Sterling headlights go is there some kind of mechanical reasons to be against the pop ups? Are parts impossible to find, are they prone to failing, are they flawed in some sort away that would make one want to get rid of them? Also if someone ends up buying a sterling that has fixed headlights would a revert back to pop-ups be a hard process?

I think you have got it the wrong way around, Sterlings (Nova’s) never came stock with pop-up headlights, they all had the recess and plexiglass covers. The 10% that you see are where individual builders have added them.

It depends on your skill level and approach you take, I have on my blog the process I went through to get to the pop-ups I have today. If you scroll down to the bottom of my blog you will find my pop-up light entry

David's correct. Sterlings with pop-ups were a late option with the cars. The housings were custom to the company and were driven by wiper motors with trip limit switches.
