Pump motor not working

Im not sure why, and it's really frustrating, by my hydraulic pump isn't working. Here's how it looks open.

Notice on the left, the springy looking piece. It's not connected to the other motor bushing. I looks like its supposed to be magnetically activated or something? Anyone have any ideas?

Better picture showing the 2 leads for the motor directions.

When assembled the ground, Red and Yellow leads are all connected and Im pretty sure they shouldn't be.

I know that this is a very old thread, but just in case anyone has one that looks like this... The "springy" thing on the left is a bi-metallic strip that heats up as current flows through it. If too much current is flowing (the motor is being overworked), the bi-metallic strip will open and the motor will stop. One end of the strip is connected to ground (the motor body). The other end is connected to the brush as you can see. The red and yellow wires are for the direction of the motor. Put 12VDC on one (red or yellow) and the motor turns in one direction. Put 12VDC on the other color and the motor turns in the other direction. This assumes that the body of the motor housing is grounded. If you check the resistance of the red wire to ground or the yellow wire to ground, you will get the resistance of the motor winding in that direction. The O.P. stated that they were connected together. This could mean that the motor windings are shorted or it could mean that the resistance of the motor windings are so low, they just look like they are connected together. Be sure that the bi-metallic strip is working correctly and allowing current to pass. Be sure that it is grounded to the body of the motor as well. Also be sure that the motor body is connected to the car's chassis ground. Since the O.P. stated that the ground, yellow and red are all connected together, I do not suspect any open wires.
