I intend to weld steel from the steel re-enforcement roof and windshield structure that i fabricate that goes down the front and rear of the door openings behind the kick panels and weld them to the pan so as the load on the roof is also being transfered directly to the floor.
My car has three cracks in the glass all originating from the center in line with the center bar in the roof. When i push up on the glass in the center, evrything starts to re-align properly. The doors align with the level of the roof and they latch properly which they don't when they are just sitting under their own weight. I put my porta power ram and extension bar between the floorpan tunnel and the roof center beam and jacked it up about 3/4 of an inch and everything kinda fell right into place, so i'll fabricate my support structure to keep the roof at that position.
I'll post pictures on my progress when i start the project in a couple of months. Got to finish adapting the V-6 motor into my Laser 917 project first and getting that painted and complete and re-mounting my Kelmark GT's body back onto it's new floorpan first. Hopefully will start in on the Cimbria in November.

I'll also keep you posted as to getting the windshield cut down. I have a 72 Datsun 240-Z that was custom made into a convertible way back in 74. I went to put new wiper blades on it and discovered that the stock blades were way to long. I looked at my 260-Z and my 280-Z's blades and they are exactly the same, so i started measuring windshields and discovered that the 240's windshield had been cut down about 4 inches from it's original measurement. So, there are people out there capable of cutting stock glass down to whatever size you need. It's just a matter of finding them. As i said in my earlier posting, i'm going to try some of the local hot rod shops as i see lot's of custom glass work on rods at car shows.

Windshield

My windshield broke when the hood blew open at 50mph. The latch is questionable at best. I would reccomend some sort of safety retainer for the hood. Very scary event, could have been much worse.

Same thing just happened to Nymotts windshield recently. Fortunatly for him, when his hood blew open, it cracked an already cracked windshield and we already had our new windshields on order. That is a very scary thing however. I had it happen to me many years ago test driving a customer pickup truck. The guy neglected to mention that his hood latch was broken and the safety had been removed. I was driving along about 40 when it went up and bent back against the glass. Couldn't see a thing. Was driving on a street with on-street parking. Don't know how i managed to miss hitting any parked cars and fortunatly the windshield didn't break or crack.

By the way, Nymotts and I just got our new windshields from Sterling kit cars.org We ordered both at the same time and had shipped to one address and saved a good bit on the shipping. We live pretty close to each other. Their packing left something to be desired. Was amazing that the 2 pieces of glass got here intact with the sloppy job of packing that they did. The glass itself is a beautiful piece. Tinted with a dark tint strip on top.
If your going to order a windshield from them, make sure you ask them to take extra care in packing it when you place your order.
