Damn... do you do that for a living? I'll hire ya! Looks great! All the stuff I need to be doing too... thanks for the reminder *laugh*

Hah, thanks Rick! I am a network guy but do this stuff on the side to stay busy in the kid's off seasons. Now get to work on your projects. :D*hee-hee-hee*

Ok, this build has gone on too long.

This guy is going to start driving come next February and I'm no further on this flipping car than I was 4 years ago. I will have it moving on it's own by the end of the year and on the road before he gets his license! Wiring resumes tomorrow.

When it comes to running ground wires I am planning on running a ground wire from the battery to the frame head as well as a main ground under the dash. I was also considering running a ground wire back to the engine bay but was curious if there is a common place to mount it or just anywhere?

Well I ended up just doing a simple ground bar where the wiring harness comes through on the passenger side of the tank just below the window. out of the way but reachable if needed. Problem solved. *thumbs up*

I have a ground up front from the battery to the top of the frame head, one from the forward most shifter bolt for the dash and one from the rear suspension (there's a threaded hole) to under the back window and to inside the drivers side rear fender. The dash and rear fender are 10 gauge I believe.

Wiring progress is slow as I am slightly OCD and trying to make things nice and neat even though it's an uphill struggle at this point. I have the front and rear lights almost all run. I worked on the rear today and remembered that I needed fit diodes and my 12v regulators inline at a few places. Sketched up the new wiring diagram and fortunately it didn't change what I had done already which was good. I'll snap some pictures tomorrow just to prove I have done work. :)

Well after a few nights of sitting in the engine bay I hit a goal tonight - lights!

I still need to test to make sure my wiring is correct with the blinkers and brakes but it's progress. I am hopeful that my wire management solution will hold once I add the split wrap. The plastic zip-tie holders are epoxied on so if they can withstand the heat they'll be just fine.

Still plenty to go but progress is progress and I really think the wiring for the lights will be the most time consuming as the lights perform multiple tasks requiring added PWMs and resistors. After this it's relays for the canopy.

It seems to take for ever and suddenly this,

becomes this

First fit dash.jpg
or something like it and it feel a long time ago.

I feel your pain. I just started replacing my original six-circuit cylindrical fuse panel that is under the dash with a modern blade-style unit that I am mounting in the front trunk. It will be fun.

Work continues on getting the wiring done in the next month or so. My big motivation now is getting the wife's car back in the garage where the dash is and seat is currently occupying. My goal tomorrow is to finish up the lights on the body so that this week I can do the dash wiring which includes the radio and gauges which should be fairly straight forward.

I've been trying to think ahead and make sure all my wiring is nice and neat but also components are able to get removed (such as the side pocket) without having to remove major pieces (like the entire side pod).

Fuse box set up in the passenger footwell. Extra flasher for the hazards, two added relays for left and right exterior lights and a ground bar bracketed at the bottom for easy ground access for some of the circuits. Even though I have the steering support bar grounded this made it where I have fewer wires run.

Dome light wired and working. All LEDs in an early 90's escort dome light housing. I have settled on the fact I will have a small bundle of wires running down the canopy hinge and I'm ok with that for now.

More to come hopefully tomorrow as I finalize the exterior lights. *idea didn't work*

Progress has slowed but I will have more pictures tomorrow as I hope to finish up the lights. I ordered fuel filler hose, wiper motor and a few odds and ends to help finish things up. Progress! *rock on*

Well the last 2 nights I spent tracking down a blinker issue. Ended up needed additional diodes on the ground wires to prevent back flow. Knowing this I have to redo the taillight wiring to prevent similar issues.

Looking for a place to mount power mirror switch on the canopy to reduce the wiring I need to run from the body up. I know a few from Euro-nova did this so we will see what I can come up with.

Well to build off of the last post - the front LEDs are fixed but the rears are another story. Due to me tying in all of the grounds on each array I have to cut the housing to get to my LED arrays to re-wire the grounds to resolve blinker issues. I am resided to the fact I'm putting diodes on the + and - side of all LED arrays just to prevent this from happening. This blows.

On a slightly positive note I spent an hour roaming the local pick n' pull for power mirror switch options (get to this later) and contact switches for the canopy. Got them all for $30, a bit more than I was hoping but local and in my hands now was worth it.

I originally had a miata mirror switch set to go into the center console but if I put it on the canopy I can reduce the wires needed to go from the canopy to the tub by 6. I'm leaning towards the round switch from a Ford Contour but the Taurus switch might hid a bit more here:

I'll post these to another thread for others to easily find.

Lastly I received the wiper motor from busparts.com. I will work through the wiring and continue to update this but let me say - I highly recommend if you need a replacement wiper motor or parts. Brett hooked me up with them and Gerald was very happy to help with good market prices.

Could you refresh my memory? What is the issue with "back flow"? What are the symptoms that require diodes to be fitted?
