Hi,
I am interested in the targa top. Do you have any pictures and would you know if it would take much modification to fit a sebring turbo?
I also need to know how to contact.
Thanks!!!

The Sebring had two different models, the original (which we now sometimes call the Gen 1 just to differentiate it) and the Sebring Turbo (which had nothing to do with turbos.) Anyhow, BOTH of them use different canopies than the Sterling, and the canopy for the Sebring Turbo is also very different from the Gen 1. The canopies on a Sterling and Sebring are superficially similar but I predict they would be very difficult to retrofit. Even if you could get the border and body lines to match, the lifting hinges and the underside contours of the tops are different. It's in that category of "anything is technically possible," but please know that those canopies were not meant to be compatible/swap-able.

There is debate (mostly solved) as to whether the Sebring used the exact windshield as the Sterling. Years ago I would have bet they were identical. Since then we know of an owner of a Sebring Turbo who bought a Sterling windshield and said it was very similar but that the convexity was different and it didn't fit. We still haven't 100% confirmed whether the windshield for the Sebring Gen 1 is the same or different than the Sterling. I still am guessing that those two are identical based on other context clues in the shape of the respective canopies.

I have never heard or seen of a T top sebring BUT they often have universal sun roofs added. I don't know much about servings as I have had a ALOT of sterlings but never seem one in person.

Sterling parts will not fit the Sebring. The canopy is a different shape.

Everything but the VW stuff about it is differant.... I have never heard or seen a T-top sebring although I have seen a few with universal sunroofs.
Yep, never seen a T-top Sebring. Sunroofs were pretty common though. Makes me wonder if they (ARX/Bremen) couldn't figure out how to do a T-top.

What modifications would need to be done for the digital dash? what is the dash from? Can the wires from my analog gauges wire direct to the digital dash?

That dash is from an aftermarket company called Dakota Digital. You can see some of their products here.

That dash wouldn't wire up directly to your dash wiring, but it could be made to work. The whole point of their company is to make aftermarket gauges that can be used in custom cars. But you would need some different senders, such as a different sender to the speedometer, oil temp, tachometer, etc. You can see some of Dakota Digital's sensors/senders here under "accessories." There's a chance you MIGHT be able to graft into and use some wires that are already there if there happen to be enough wires going to the location of the old sender (whichever one you're working on at a given moment) just so you wouldn't have to pull new wires. (In other words, you'd cut the wires off both ends, at the old gauge and the old sender if there is one, and just use the raw wires that might already be there.) But that leaves a lot of mystery insofar as it's often very difficult to know where wires go and what else they might be connected to. The cleanest solution is usually to run new wires so you know exactly what you have.

For some gauge functions there might already be a VW sender and wiring present, like for temp. But for other functions like the speedo, there definitely wouldn't be existing wires because the VW speedo wasn't electronic, it was purely mechanical.

I didn't dig deep into the Dakota Digital site just now but I know in the past I found pretty good documentation on how to hook things up on their site. As Sterling projects go, hooking up a digital dash like that is about mild-to-moderate difficulty. It's not like grafting in a different engine. But it can be a pain in the butt to route those new wires.

Do you have the windshield I belief mine is a Sebring gen 1 from everything I have seen but all the paperwork for my car burnt in a house fire and the guy who owned the car didn't make it.

We do have brand new Sterling windshields and they are really nice. They have a black ceramic border plus a slight tint band at the top, both of which make it look a whole lot more like what you'd find on a production car.

We know for sure that the Sterling windshield will NOT fit the Sebring Turbo (Sebring II.) I have never had a Gen I Sebring in my backyard so I've never been able to confirm for 100% for sure whether the Sterling windshield would fit or not BUT my strong belief is that it'll fit. The reason I think that is because the canopy and windshield are two of the hardest and most expensive things to modify and therefore I think they kept it as simple as possible and didn't stray too far from the Sterling in the Sebring I. Plus, the greenhouse portion of the canopies just simply looks the same whereas, if you look carefully, the greenhouse of the Sebring II is notably different.

I'd hate for anyone to spend money on a confident guess, though. How far are you from Hershey, PA? Bring a canopy and we can confirm it one and for all. (y)

Hey Uno - Looking for side windows for a non-targa sterling. Have a pair by chance? (would be awesome with mounting hardware/latches)
