Office chair seats

saw these online this morning...remove the arms and base and maybe they'd fit in a Sterling?
who wants to be the first to try? I'm tempted! ;)

I know the width says 21.6", but is that with or without the arms attached? I dunno...it looks pretty narrow!

Respects...but it has been my experience that "cheap" office chairs are not built to a standard that would withstand use in vehicles very long...regardless of fit and comfort. YMMV

O.K. those are pretty much what I have in my car, in fact they look better than mine, dammit, *humpf* .

One would loose the slide out leg support of course and maybe the lumber support.
The 17.5" floor width means it will fit, snug yes but it will fit. don't forget you will be 1 1/2" off the floor with the sliders as well.

The quality is more than good enough and in fact we use very similar fixed back seats in our buggys and they do 100KM a DAY off road.

I have a similar seat in my home office and although I wouldn't say they were suitable for heavy use they would be more than adequate for our type of cars.

I'm 6'-3"...I don't plan to ever be in my Sterling for "very long"! :D

Don't forget to take into consideration how far the recline mechanism sticks out on the side of the seat. Every seat that I've looked at(except one)the recline mechanism sticks out to far to clear the seating position area.

Also this is a chair not a seat so mounts for the seat tracks may not be there.

well if you want to take the chance and get one at least if it doesn't work you can always use it for a chair at your computer, so it wont be a total waste of money

Someone just answered my listing question:

"What is the width of the chair at the hinge point between the back and bottom? (Out to out of the black plastic hinge covers)"

A: 17.5 inches

I had to 'trim' a bit off of the bottom of the black plastic covers but as they are out of sight between the seat and the side it doesn't matter.

I have two 3cm x 4mm bar running across front and rear on which the runners fit. This means I can use the old holes I had in the floor and keep the runners away from the sides.

Since I'm replying to "Seats" threads this week, I should add that a couple years ago I bought one of these chairs off Amazon and tried it in the Sterling - no luck, too wide. Not by much though, so if someone has more than 16.5" width in their drop pans, they might have better luck than I did!
