Hello all- just got my first Sterling a couple of months ago and am going to do a ground up resto on it. It was sitting on a 69 vw pan but I took the body off and sold the pan for next to nothing.it wasnt worth a crap anyhow. It needs a new canopy because it is twisting up at the lift hinges and will require extensive work to make it right.I am looking at getting one of Daves targa tops for it.
I am a younger guy and really am not into vw stuff at all. Im not going to knock the vw stuff but I prefer a more modern car myself.
I have a series 3 supercharged 3800 engine with about 13k miles on it from an 06 grand prix gtp. It will have a cam change, stage2 intercooler,pulley change,headers and some other goodies.It should be worth around 300=hp at the wheels*rock on*. The tranny is a 4t65e-hd with the 3:29 gears. it is an automatic tranny.
I am also having a tube chassis built for it using mustang2 front suspension and incorporating the front assembly from the grand prix for the drivetrain. It will have coilovers front and rear with a tilt Fiero steering column. I will be using the wire harness from a fiero as well so the electronics in the column will hook right up.
I am in the proccess of mocking up some intakes for the upper holes behind the windows. the pass side will have a fiero popper gas lid molded into it with the latch behind the pass seat. The drivers side will be functional for the engines intake.
It is going to be one hell of a project that I am going to really enjoy.
Also if any one needs one I am going to sell the rear taillight panel and lights. it has the tr7 lights? I beleive. I am remodeling the rear lower facia also. I have some Lotus esprit s1 taillights that when flipped from side to the other side actually follow the rear body line and will look like they were made for it. This will require a whole new rear section.
I have been a pattern/mold maker for the plastics and fiberglass industry for around 10 years and have a lotof experience with car parts interior and exterior.
