NEW CIMBRIA WINDSHIELDS

Special Announcement: one of our good friends and club member has taken it upon himself to foot the bill for a production mold of the Cimbria windscreen, taken directly from his car. Production plans will still be several weeks out yet, but new glass should be available by the first of the year. Total cost will depend on total order - if you need glass, put your order in now. Contact Fuzz @ fuzz148@verizon.net for further details. The glass will be available in clear and light green '70's tint - but keep in mind is no longer DOT legal, but may pass inspection due to your states' requirements for kit and assembled cars.

Good news! *rock on* Will these be drop in, or will they require the rubber strip along the edge?
What would be required to be DOT legal?

They will be DOT legal in all states as laminated safety glass. You will be required to re-use your existing molding or source a generic if you want the OEM look.

This is EXTREMELY good news for Cimbria owners. Thank you, thank you, thank you Fuzz!

Okay Cimbria folks, it's time to act. It is a small miracle that this opportunity has presented itself. If you need a windshield or want a spare, it's time to dig deep and order one. This might be our only opportunity.

Also, the windshield manufacturer did some careful measurements and it appears that the Cimbria windshields do have a very subtle difference in their curvature compared to the Sterling windshield. These replacements are being made from one of the only actual Cimbria windshields known to exist that isn't currently mounted in a car. These will be the real deal, and it is unclear whether the production run will be repeated.

I don't desperately need one, but I'm sure as heck getting one as a spare while they exist. This is the ONE part of the Cimbria that can't really be substituted. As such, in my opinion, it is a must-have spare.

Again, thank you Fuzz for pioneering the solution. *thumbs up*

New Cimbria Windshields

Greetings to everyone. It is with great pleasure and pride that I will present the opportunity for everyone to obtain a real, honest to goodness Cimbria or Cimbria SS laminated safety glass windshield. It is important for owners of all models of the Cimbria kit car made by Amore Cars to know that the windshield of the Cimbria never changed throughout the years. So no matter what year or model you have, these will fit them. I verified this fact with the creator of the Cimbria, Joseph Palumbo himself!!!

Also, it is important for you to know these windshields are going to be the same quality as you would see in any production car coming out of Detroit, Germany, or Japan. These are safety, laminated, curved windshields. These are not flat pieces of Lexon or other plastics. However, they will not have a DOT number. If you are dying to get a DOT number on your windshield, then you can purchase thirteen (yes, 13 of them) and complete the following REQUIREMENT from your state's DOT: You have to send them an intact, complete windshield, plus 12 pieces cut out of the center of the glass of the 12 other windshields for them to test under varying conditions (i.e. throw rocks at them!). Once they are satisfied, they will issue you a DOT number for your next glass, so you actually need to buy 14 windshields to get a DOT number. If you think that is worth the effort, please proceed. I know for a fact that since these are kit cars, they do not need DOT numbers on the windshields.

These are going to be exactly the same thickness as original Cimbria windshields, curved exactly the same from all angles, molded to the exact size. So these will have to have the windshield trim just like the originals did.

As soon as I have an absolutely accurate cost I will pass it along to everyone, so please stay tuned. The molds are being made as I type this. In the meantime, please help me out by e-mailing me at fuzz148@verizon.net if you need a windshield. I will need to compile a list of potential buyers. Personally I am going to purchase two of them myself just because I've been waiting since 1988 for a spare windshield and I never want to have to worry about picking up a crack from a wayward stone flying at me from a passing truck.

Truly yours,

Fuzz

yes I want a back up glass but it depends how much it costs It may take me a while to save up for it.
I am scared to death just to drive my car with the worry of trying to replace the glass.

Have you asked the guys at sterling sports cars to see if they will buy a few to keep in stock.

will they be cheaper the more we order.

Regardless we need to contact the national registry and every website in the world that deals with sterling's of every variety. I am positive that we could put in a really healthy order. Then maybe we could get a better price and everybody could pitch in to help pay for the molds, as well as dot approval.

Since I'm fairly new here I do not know all of the websites dedicated to our cars. Nor am I a member of the national registry yet. Does anybody have the knowledge it is going to take to make this happen?

Of our 229 members how many own cimbria's?

Because of this thread I'm in the process of buying a Cimbria, that needs a windshield. Funds are a little tight right now, but hopefully they will be available when I need one.

Still gathering numbers Dale. Be patient. I think Fuzz has eight or nine people right now - to make the effort financially viable he's going to need quite a few more.

Did anybody contact Dave directly to see if he had interest in a few for stock? I know it was suggested but didn't know if there was follow through.

He won't need to if enough orders are written. The company is local US based and apparently will keep them in stock or make to order as needed.

Sorry but Its hard to make a commitment with out a price.

Haven't told any of you guys yet , I had a third heart attack this year, and 5 bypasses. I have been laid off for 10 months (recovering) so money is pretty tight.
I don't want to commit without being able follow through..

I will contact the manufacturer today and see if he is close enough to finishing the molds that he could give me an accurate estimate on the cost of the molds and the glass. If he can give me the numbers, then I can provide a cost.

Rubber Trim

Is the rubber molding that goes around the windshield a generic piece or a custom made piece? *hmmm*

It is generic. You just have to make sure it is for the correct glass thickness and has enough of a lip that would cover part of the windshield frame. I plan to use this one if it fits the glass thickness: CRL Gold Glass 5/8" Universal Channel Molding with Butyl - UNIVERSAL WINDSHIELD AND CHANNEL MOLDINGS

Cut and past that link and let me know what you think. I believe this one would work well, but I won't really know until either myself or someone else tries it out. I had to rip my trim apart when I took the glass out, so I would need someone with good trim to let me know how wide we need to go. Warren, yours was in good shape from what I recall. Could you please let us know its dimensions?

Thanks for the link Fuzz. I noticed they also have it with the chrome band in it, if you feel like getting fancy.
