Need some help

Ok, I've found most of the parts for my wiper system, Except one piece. I need the cam arm that connects the motor to the linkage.

Anyone have one they would sell.

Make sure you get the one with the right mounting hole shape and size. I can dig through my reciepts if you need me to and find out which one I got, but that might not help if we have different motors. The stock motor that came with my car is package away and I don't remember the type of output shaft it has but I can locate it and find out if you need me too.

Old thread, similar problem. I can't find my wiper motor...it's only been 3.5 years and two household moves since I last saw it, so I can't imagine WHY I can't find it... -confused**insane* I've looked thru all the boxes in my garage and shop twice now, but with no luck. I can either keep looking or bite the bullet and just buy a new one so I can move forward with my canopy wiring. I kind of have a nagging hunch that my old unit was all rusted up and I tossed it years ago - at least that's what I'm telling myself to justify the purchase of a new unit! *laugh*

All I can find is the wiper arm/blade assembly (because it was packed inside the car along with other parts). Looks like I need the whole motor, bracket, and pantograph adapter kit. I looked at Dave's page, but his kits have more than I need.

Following Brett's link above, I think I need parts "A" & "E" - assuming my wiper arm will fit. THoughts?

Part "E" fit perfect on my car, as far as the motor goes, I would call when you place the order and before you order it ask if the motor is wired for 3 or 5 wires. Stock configuration is wired for 3 wires but if you have changed that to a 5 wire setup then you need one wired for 5 wires. They have both styles of motors.

The aluminum knurled tapered adapter on the pivot shaft should fit the arm. I had no problems putting my arm on it.

Check your pivot shaft length and make sure its 5/8" length. I believe that was the length on the one I have.

I'll check back later to see if you have any more questions.

As a last resort I do have the old wiper motor for my car that I could let go. I upgraded my system and don't need it anymore. I would have to put a battery to it and make sure it still works though. It's been a long time since it was used last.

Went through my old receipts and the pivot shaft I got was #49-112

Pantograph adapter kit # M-2361

Tomorrow I'll dig up the stock one and get a measurement on that.

Once the measurements are verified I think there should be a sticky made for future reference.

3 wire vs. 5 wire...I'm not sure. I have a Fiero steering column with a Hi/Lo/Off/Mist wiper switch (no delay/intermittent setting). It looks like all wipers would be "5" wire: +12v, Ground, Hi, Lo & Park. right? or are some basic ones just +12vHigh, +12vLow & Ground? At this point I can go any way I need to with the wiring since i have none whatsoever installed in the car yet! As long as it interfaces with the GM Fiero column...

Looking back at my CAD drawings from 4+ years ago, it looks like I had it set up for some sort of negative trigger using relays. *hmmm*-confused*

now looking at a Fiero wiring diagram, it looks like Factory uses a positive trigger. *hmmm*-confused*

Early style of wipers had a different method to park the wipers and I think thats the difference.

When I updated my system the stock configuration of the Honda switch(I have a Honda steering column) was used to ground the system but with the newer motor now it supplies the power and the motor is the ground point. Don't know why they do it that way

No biggie I was already in the process of wiring the system anyway

You must really like relays. When I was researching the wiring for my wipers they all were just wired to the fuse block, no relays

If your going to get that motor I would call them and ask for a wiring diagram on it before you get it to make sure you'll be able to make it work with your switch. It should work but it never hurts to be safe.

I think the relays were determined to be a "necessary evil" in order to get the GM column to play nice with the VW wiper motor...but that train of thought left the station YEARS ago! *laugh* Now is the perfect time to reconfigure the schematic before I ever run a single wire.

I'll contact them for wiper motor wiring info before ordering; thanks!

FYI, I was looking thru an old flash drive today and discovered a detail that explains where I got the idea for the "wiper relay system" from. it looks like there WAS some logic behind my madness shown on page 1 of this thread! it shows how to wire my 3-wire GM column switch into a certain type of wiper motor (not the type i have though). Too bad it also loses the Mist and Washer functionality... but maybe this circuit will help someone in the future...
