Junk Yards aren't safe any more

Went to the pick a part yard the other day mainly just to get out of the house.
Picked up a couple things and went to pay for them. When I got to the cashier there was a lady having a discussion with the cashier.
Apparently she needed needed a mirror for her car and thought they would pull the part for her. After she was told that they don't do that she looked at me and asked if I had any tools. I said nope I just carry this red box around for the fun of it. I had to explain that I was just messing with her and yes there are tools in my tool box.
She asked if I had time to pull a mirror for her and I said sure.

Well she got her mirror and as I walked to my truck she asked if I was married. I said yes and she said "to bad I was going to ask you out to dinner".

Its been some time since I've been hit on and she wasn't even drunk.

Just count yourself lucky you're allowed into junk yards. There's only a couple left in NSW that you're allowed to wander around in and scavenge for yourself. Most will have already pulled the bits allowed off the car, or will go collect the part for you. Yes, allowed to. Not everything is allowed for resale for safety reasons. Seat belts being the prime example off the top of my head. The closest junk yard to me that I can walk around is around an hours drive, the next one is like 2 hours drive.

This is true. Most junk yards around here won't allow you to wander. You need to go in with a specific parts request and they'll pull it for you if they have it. I can think of only two near me that you can wander - but you're not allowed to pull the parts: the yard guys have to do it. All about the insurance regulations here...

The yards here charge a $1.00 entry fee and you have to sign a waiver before they let you in.

Thats how they get around the insurance issue here.

Similar by me...$2 entry fee, insurance waiver and they check your toolbox for cutting tools like saws or bolt cutters - they want you to UNinstall the part, not just hack it off the car destroying other sale-able parts in the process. At least they provide wheelbarrows to carry your toolbox and parts around the yard though! And all the cars are year 2000 or older...

Around here they don't care what tools you bring in. They do check for parts that you bring in so you don't claim that you brought that part in with you as you leave.

They don't really care if you hack up the vehicles because the company owns a recycle company also and after a few months on the lot the vehicles go there. So either way they get hacked up:D

Thats why its important to check the yards regularly if your looking for something. The weekends are a zoo there so I try to get there on the week days. Thats when they put the new inventory out.

I have to travel 54Km (30Miles) to Malaga and one road with a string of 6 breakers yards. they sometimes let you wander around looking for parts but most will require you to be accompanied, but having found what you need you have to grab a mechanic who will remove it for you, no tools allowed. Nearly all the cars are under ten years old, although one yard has a 'classic corner', even parts for my 2001 Mercedes A170 CDi is hard to find and as for the 1987 E30 and the 1994 Corsa, gold dust.
Every yard now has to be licensed and starts with stripping of the vehicles components ecology with proper oil, coolant, R134, tire, and fuel, disposal before crushing.

I sorta see this section has been a bit dormant. I live in Conway, S.C., about 15 miles inland from Myrtle Beach. And I can throw a stone into the local " Grand Strand Pick-n-Pull". Two bucks gets ya in & you pull your own parts. I go in once a week for S & G's, mainly look for Pontiacs. Hatchell & Son used cars & parts is a take off of a 70 yr old junk yard "Watt's" I've been doing business with for 40 yrs. Most of their GOOD old stuff is long gone, but there is always new stuff coming in. Plus they are a re-cycle center that I deal w/as a metal scrapper.

But I can say I've been hit on by a lady @ a junk yard before, dang. Did get caught w/lady? friend w/our pants down once. Sorry; TMI?!? But really, some girls do know the difference between a pipe wrench & a torque wrench.
