Intermittant Wiper Relay

A while ago some of you may remember that I was trying to find a way to get my delay feature to work in my car with out putting the whole power distribution box(which is where the delay feature was located at)from the donor car.

Not being able to remove that feature from the box I ended up just not wiring that feature in.

Well I found a super easy way to install this feature into the car and for others also that don't have this feature.

Apparently VW has a simple rely that makes this all happen and you can adjust the delay feature in it.

There are right ups on it all over the internet.

The only problem I had was finding the relay. They seem to be popular in the salvage yards here.
Out of two rows Of VW's I only found 1 with the delay feature and 1 without
someone had already gone through the cars and took them

Based off of an Ebay search it appears that Audi cars utilize those same relays. There are two different variable relays: 357 955 531 "99" and 3B0 955 531 "197". Apparently the only difference is 99 was superseded by the 197 one. According to my good friend Google that is.*thumbs up*

Sorry I didn't get back to you on this Will, I turned off the notification thingy a long time ago and it was just now I saw your post.

Yes that is correct BUT if you would have clicked on the link that I posted, it had that info on it.

Shame on you for not reading every thing*hee-hee-hee*

I was trying to find what gauge wire VW uses for the system because I'm getting ready to wire it in, which is why I revisited this post.
I did find VW's factory wiring diagram for the wiper system if anyone is interested in seeing it I can post it. It doesn't give the gauge of wire though but it does have the wire color.

Since posting this I have been back to the yards once and was able to get 2 more of the 19 style relays. These relays must be real popular because all the cars have them missing. The yards here get $2.75 for these relays just for your info. Don't know what ebay wants for them or what retail is.

One of the really nice things about this delay relay is you can set the length of the delay that you want unlike some delays that have a 1, 2, 3 ,4 setting and your stuck with using those times

Something I found out about this relay

The variable relay has an arrow in the diagram that designates it as the variable relay

The non variable relay does not have this
PA150004.jpg

Both are wired in the same
Also found out that there is a 196 relay and this is a non variable relay and is the same as the 19 relay
