When getting parts for my engine the dealer didn't care what car it came out. They wanted the VIN or the engines serial number.
Well I never wrote down the VIN from the car I pulled it from, so I had no idea.
Subaru makes many changes during the model year so its kind of important to know what the VIN is or the serial number of the engine.
At least for the EJ series Subaru has all this stamped on the engines cases.
Once you know the VIN there are sites you can go to that will give you all kinds of info about the cars specs by typing in the VIN
