How to add a custom photo/thumbnail to your Builder's Journal

In days of yore, people had to send me a photo if they wanted a custom thumbnail to highlight their Builder's Journal. I would then have to tweak it and put it through a stupid number of machinations to get it to maybe show up correctly if the software wasn't grumpy that day. Since switching to the new forum software, I found a add-on that allows the person who started the thread to click on their thumbnail and upload whatever (appropriate) photo of their project they want. Enjoy!

How to add/change the thumbnail for your Builder's Journal:
When logged in, if you hover over the top right corner of your thumbnail (ie, the photo or graphic immediately to the left of your Journal thread) you should see an icon for a pencil which allows you to edit the photo. Click on it and then either select a photo from the gallery of your photos if it shows any or just upload a new photo using the upload button. It's easy like Sunday Morning.

I get the "pencil" and it lets me choose a photo, but when I try to change the pic, this is what I get:

My builder's log thumbnail appears to just default to the first image in the log thread.

Chrome Version 89.0.4389.114 (Official Build) (64-bit) on a Lenovo i7 tower

Hi guys. I finally heard back from the developer of that particular add-on and they gave a suggestion that eventually led me to a setting that allows ME to edit everyone's thread thumbnails again. (I originally had the ability to do that and then all of the sudden I couldn't anymore despite not having changed anything.) Then I tested it though my "tester" username as just a registered user...and it seems to work again for a user. But the thing is, I didn't change anything for users so it shouldn't "be fixed." ThreeTimeTom (or anybody else): feel free to try it again. nbb350: Your situation has an additional twist in that you apparently have most of your photos hosted on Photo Bucket rather than having uploaded them to be hosted directly on the forum. As such, it might be that the add-on can't deal with the external link. (The problem with that theory is that I would think you would still be shown and "upload" button for a brand new pick from your computer.)

Bottom line: If anyone has a builder's thread and is feeling bored tonight, see if it seems to allow you to change your thread thumbnail on you Builder's Journal.

Alternately, if anyone wants to change their photo before we otherwise iron out this wrinkle, just send me a photo or temporarily post a photo HERE in this thread and I'll swap it out for you. I like to have things automated but it honestly isn't any sort burden on me to help with those.

Yup, Photobucket was the best option back in 2012 when I started my thread; now I use Flickr. Obviously it went to hell with the watermarks and resolution, but since the old pix still display "well enough", I'm not going to reload and relink all the old photos.
Odd...the forum software seems to use the same upload module for trying to add a pic to my builder's log as it does to "attach file" to this post...BUT, while I CAN attach a file below, I still can't add a pic to my post (same permission message).

Thanks for the feedback. That's weird but helpful. I'll keep playing with it for sure BUT in the event that I can't adjust those permissions, feel free to send me a photo if you ever want to change that thumbnail.

since i'm the problem-causing oddball, could you please just change it to the pic i've attached to this reply? (same pic as my avatar)

Yeah, no worries; thank you for unearthing this particular problem. I still can't figure it out. There is a permissions page where I can give groups and individuals permission for exactly this functionality and everything is configured correctly. But add-ons notoriously aren't as well refined as the core software. Ah well. I'll try yet again with those developers. Thanks everyone for trying it. I might ask you to again at some point after any further tweaks are made.

He guys, I just now DID try something else. There was a function to "rebuild thumbnails" which shouldn't have anything to do with that functionality but I clicked it anyway and one of the many messages that flew past said "rebuilding permissions." Somebody try changing their Builder Journal photo sometime. My "tester" account is useless because it always worked.

Update. I messed with it some more. I am only able to switch between the first loaded pics in my first post. I cannot load new ones to the thumbnail or any from other sequential posts.
