Getting serious about the spaceship (again). Wanting to do the interior of the canopy, and the sides in an upholstry. Did you guys just stick it straight to the wall, or make panels? How much fabric did you use?
I used diamond vinyl. It is one continuous piece all the way around with no seams. I just used contact cement to put it on the walls. I did this in 1980 and I just took the pictures a couple of minutes ago, so it has lasted for 37 years. I really, really hated the "bare wall" look and getting this up made me feel so much better. I also sewed all the carpet for the floor and I put custom head rests on the stock seats. Some may think it is too 1950s, but I love it and I am happy and that is all that counts because I will never sell the car. As for how much it took, I just measured all the way around and then bought that many linear feet.
Sorry, I am old and senile. Yes, there were two seams. I don't know why I didn't remember it earlier. Probably because they are hidden behind the speakers and I have not seen them for 37 years. There is one seam on each side.
I also put the vinyl on the canopy sides as well. The last shot is my custom headrest on the factory seat. It looks bigger than it actually is due to the camera angle. I put the headrests because at 5'11" I lay all the way back and I wanted my head to rest on something.
That's not too far off from the 'factory' wall covering which was pleated vinyl. It, too, wrapped the canopy and down the sides. The factory also offered headrests quite similar to what you did! Nice job on both!
I saw Jeff Dunnham on Jay Leno's garage the other day. Jay went to his house and showed a few of his cars. I was really hoping to see your old red Sterling at least in the background. Nope : (
