Hi,

I am to a part of the build that I am fairly out of my comfort zone with. Then engine has just been picked up from the machine shop. The line bore was done .020 over and the cam bore was only just cleaned up and the thrust was fine, did not need to be cut. I need to start compiling a list of engine internals to I can start putting her back together, and this is where I'm lost. I tried searching CIP1.com, but their bearing options are rather confusing. Is there anyone who understands all this who can lend a hand and point me at "THAT ONE". I'm keeping the crank stock since I already spent money to have it polished, but I might be willing to spend a little for a more aggressive cam. Again, I'm not sure what will work. I really hate feeling this stupid, but I'd like a hand if it's available.

Hmm.. can't help here, although I'm sure Brett and Yaughn will chime in. Personally, I'd probably call CB Performance and talk with Pat Downes and his tech department. They're one of the best with engine builds.

Its been a while since I went through a bug engine but I'll try to help
The main bearings have three dimensions to consider when buying them.

Crank dimension. This is the inside surface of the bearing. If no machine work is done on the crank and the crank has never been machined it would be stock. If the crank has been turned the machine shops sometimes stamp the amount taken off some where on the crank.

Case dimension. This is the outside dimension of the bearing. If any work is done on the case(line bore)this dimension makes up for that.

Thrust dimension. This is the side loads that that are excerted on the crank, mainly caused by the loads caused by pushing the clutch in.


So, to your knowledge the crank is stock. Are you 100% sure it is completly stock and it has never had any machine work on it??

With the info you have given this is what you should be looking for

Crank. stock (No machine work done)

Case. .020 (line bored)

Thrust. stock (no machine work done)

When I went to the cip1 site a red flag to me was on their bearings they didn't tell you who makes them.

Once you get the bearings (crank and cam) plastigauge them to make sure you have the right size and they are within tolerance.

Im putting the engine back together again and Im to the point of reassembling the oil pump. The instructions say to put the rubber o-ring type gasket on the oil pump. I see there is a ring groove cut into the body of the pump but I dont have a rubber o-ring and I dont see one on CIP1. Is there one or am I misreading the instructions.

That's because there isn't one. There is a gasket between pump body and pump and one under the pump cover, no O ring on a standard or HP pump.
