Enclosed headlights

Those of you who have enclosed your headlights, how did you do it? I'm referring to closing up the inside section of the opening, closest to the boot lid, that triangular piece that's needed. Also, is it at 90 degrees from the base of the headlight bucket? Does it follow the curve of the boot lid? I'm struggling with figuring out the best way to do this and I'm fairly frustrated. I've been staring at this now for what feels like HOURS.

I haven't, but have considered it many times. Personally, at least for you, I would simply take a mold from the edge of the boot lid and graft it into place. That way the lid should close and clear with little effort.

Is there a picture of a car with the headlight looks that your going for so I could have a better idea of the finished looks that you want??

I'm guessing you want to build this out of fiberglass.

Ignore the wide open roof, the roof was completely manual when I got it with stuffed gas struts that let it open way too far.

But what he's talking about is the enclosed 'side' of the 'hood', so it encloses the headlight pocket. Sorry, can't help there, that's factory here.

I might go this route, straight steel, then fill in the remaining rounded area with.... I dunno yet.

Nic; I would think the steel would add weight & maybe one day vibrate loose from glass. Maybe you're
after a take apart bucket? Just a tho't. Rick

I misunderstood you.

I was thinking you were going to change the looks of the lights.

I poked at it this morning to see if it had cured, it had. I'll leave it clamped until tomorrow I think. I won't have time to do anything with it tonight anyway. This is 5 layers of 1.5 oz CSM and as you can see, I used more resin than was needed. The excess oozed out under moderate clamping pressure. I poured two 3 ounce cups of resin for this, and probably squeezed out 2-3 ounces after clamping. Pictures to follow in a day or so.

*thumbs up* Yep, that was basically what I was thinking! Good luck with it - I think it makes the headlight pod look "cleaner" and you're now able to seal up the boot for (relatively) waterproofing.

Pulled, trimmed and dabs of epoxy holding it in place. Once its set, then I'll glass it into its final place.

Thanks.

Started glassing the inside. 2 layers of .75 oz glass.

Started the Left side of the bucket mold too. Maybe it'll be ready tomorrow.

Looking good, Nic. I was curious to see how close it was going to be to the headlight bucket. Since you're not using a stock unit, there doesn't appear that there will be much, if any, interference.

Correct, Rick. I will have to trim some of the outer right, but nothing major, less than 1/2 inch.
