Boat Motor

OK this was different
On the FB site someone was thinking of installing a 150 hp 2 stroke boat motor in their car.

my question is aside from having to mix your gas being a pain, is there any way to bolt a boat motor up to a transmission and to the clutch??

Don't know what the output shaft looks like on a boat motor

Depending on the year that the car is registered as, or the state its in, Smog tests may be an issue

I saw that too and just kind of had to roll my eyes. I respect it as a silly fun thought-experiment but every aspect of trying to actually do that is just absurd. There is NO upside I can see. There are literally dozens of better options. I think the guy was just having a fun, stray thought, though. Hard to say.

Weirdly, my dad once built a homebuilt helicopter that was powered by an 85 hp Evinrude engine. He said it flew kind of like a helicopter powered by an underpowered boat engine. Maximum hovering height was 18 inches. He’s an adventurous dude who was never scared of anything but he referred to that aircraft as a death trap and sold it almost immediately.

I’ll ask him if he’s interested in your engine. 😄

Even if you made an adapter for the engine to bolt up to a bell housing and then find a clutch that would work, and bolt it to a transmission, the engine wasn't design for that application, so I doubt if it has a thrust bearing on the crank to handle the side load thats put on the crank when using the clutch
