Anyone done a build like this?

Has anyone here done a full tube chassis on one of these with a v8? This is really what I want to do to mine or something along the lines of how a DeTomaso Pantera is built. I have a local chassis fabricator who is excellent, I just don’t know how doable it is. Thoughts?

It is not practical to do a DeTomaso setup in the Sterling. The DeTomaso engine is located behind the transmission and this forces the driver too far forward. As such, the driving position in the DeTomaso is very upright with the head of the driver close to the windshield. To fit comfortably in Sterling, the diver needs to be in the reclined position, which means that in oder to have a DeTomaso setup, you would need to stretch the Sterling by at least 18 inches. Another thing to note is that DeTomaso uses ZF transmission, which is very expensive.
The alternative would be to use a V8 drivetrain from a FWD car such as impala SS. In this case, the transmission is located under the engine. Such setup is more compact, but then you are stuck with an automatic transmission. This approach is used in the Grullon DDR SS kit car, which also uses a tubular frame.
Nowadays, there are many 4 or 6 cyl forced induction engines that make better power than in typical V8.
