Roger, Looking very finished!
I noticed a few details on the car that I hadn’t previously in these latest shots, and a few questions as a result :
1) I see your worm and roller steering box pokes through into the hood compartment. Why is this? The only other time I’ve seen this was on mine as the original builder had the chassis length wrong. Something I had to correct. However your wheels seem OK in the arches so I can’t figure out why?

2) What are the ribs for on the edge of the bonnet, just design detailing?

3) I take it that you are not expecting any rain on the trip :p

I’m sure you will get a lot of attention at the show, you’ll have to see if you can get a video of it on the move *thumbs up*

#1 I think it may be on the chassis ever so slightly incorrect. Maybe just a bit back further then its supposed to be. It only pokes through maybe a 1/2" or less. Its cut out like that on all 4 of my cars. I thought it was for access to adjusting the steering box. I didn't mate the body to the chassis, it came this way and I didn't want to dive that deep into this refresh.

#2 The ribs are a design detail from a GT40 that I liked. Just something to make you go hmmmm.

#3 I sure hope it doesn't rain! I just didn't have the time I needed to get the wiper on and hooked up. That will have to happen in the next week or so. If it rains, I will have my truck and trailer to bring it home. I do plan to drive to the show so fingers crossed. Rain in Florida only lasts a few minutes at a time anyway. Remember this is not England where it rains for months at a time! *na-na-na*

I will be doing some video real soon. I have my gopro and a drone that I plan to make some fun car videos with. I will shoot some video on the way to the show tomorrow and likely around the show to get some of the other cars.

How are those side windows working out, have you tested them for water tightness?

Can you get a few close up shots of how you did the hinges, mounting points and seals etc..?

Side Windows

I bought a set of hinges from the Sterling site 2 years ago. These are the sunroof style hinges and latch with a quick release pin. The gasket is also from the Sterling site and is just a simple D shape gasket.

The hinges work well and are simple to unlatch to remove the window in just a few seconds. The latch doesn't pull the window down tight and lock in as it should, I think where the latch mounts to the canopy should be a bit taller. Overall I am happy with the kit other then the price which if I remember correctly was about $239. Twice what I think it should be.

If the window latch were raised a bit and snapped closed like its supposed to, I think it would be pretty water resistant. For me, I'm satisfied and will adjust it in the near future. I don't intend for the car to be in the weather so I'm not worried about water tightness. I'm sure the canopy will leak past the gasket more then the windows will. I personally see these cars as fair weather cars only anyway.

I have driven the car since I finished about 1500 miles. Been to about 7 different shows / cruise nights locally and the car has been very well received. Even the Hot Rod crowd has been pretty positive.

The most common question I have been asked is where do you buy these? Seems most people think its a modern car. Mission accomplished!

Mirrors and scoop covers

Think your journal is fantastic. I have been reading many over the past weeks. Can you tell me where your mirrors are from and are they totally manual, and did you make the scoop covers in your next post. Are they available?

Mirrors came from ebay and are available from many different sellers. They are manual and are also available with a built in turn signal.

The scoops were available from the Sterling site as a bond on type scoop. I made the scoops that have a bolt on flange since I liked the look of the exposed fasteners.

I spent some time starting to get my interior sorted. I got my seat back trimmed up and positioned and cut some new seat bases. The seat base will be raised on the front edge about 1" off the floor rather then flat as I originally thought. This kind of creates a bolstered effect. The seat back is also angled back a bit more then originally anticipated. After about an hour or so of fooling around with them I think I hae found a pretty comfortable configuration.

I have thought what you are doing with you seats makes great sense. Great job.

Glad to see the site back up.

Thanks to those involved in getting the site back up and running!

I know there are some costs involved in keeping the site operational and hosted. What can we members / enthusiasts do to help?

Thanks Roger. I don't think there is anything the membership can do.. it's up to the webmaster to keep it running. I'll keep on him... I know where he lives *laugh*

Glad you're on the case Rick.

I know there are costs involved, how much I have no clue. That's kind of where I was going with this. Ray and I had the discussion and had thought maybe that is why the site was down for so long. We really thought it was gone forever. I know with involvement from the community being down, maybe it was thought it wasn't worth the expense to keep it going. Again, I'm not sure why it was down for so long, but if it was the cost of keeping it running, I'm sure we could get a few members to kick in and help cover the cost.

Really, there isn't much cost other than the hosting plan, which is actually pretty minimal. What had happened was there was a 2 part upgrade on the PhP host, and the owners' software only loaded one of those parts for some reason, so it hung up the entire site within the host computer. It took, well, until this past week for someone with much more computer skills than he or I to find that it was a single line of code that was corrupt! So.. we're back, at least most of it. There are still some modules that aren't quite working, so I think he's going to revamp the site and make it a little more streamlined at some point.

Rear window trim.

First time in the garage since I broke my hip.

Spent part of the day cleaning up the last mess I left behind, then got a chance to make a part I have wanted to make for over a year.

I had laid up a flat sheet of glass many months ago. Today I laid out and cut the new window trim.

I might even get to fill some pin holes and prime it this week after work.

Once its done, it will get bonded to the rear of the car to hide the ugly window cutout.

It will get painted satin black like all the other trim pieces I have made.
