Spent another 11 hours working on wiring yesterday. Every wire has been accounted for and my audio system is working except for the little tweeters in my console. I still need to filter the signal to them (I know nothing about car stereos! *very frustrated*). Good news is the turn signal works like it should. I'm not using a typical buggy turn signal lever or a stock column. My switch is just a toggle on my center console. I'll include a photo of the relay arrangement. I used an electronic type flasher since all my lighting is LED.

I did my turn circuit this way because I wanted to use my brake light as the blinker instead of using a separate bulb for the rear turn signal. Would I do it again? Maybe, having a separate bulb for turn signal would have been much simpler and less opportunity for failure. This type of circuit is popular on buggys that use a single rear bulb (1157). I could have eliminated all the relays if I had just used a separate bulb. Many decisions were made early on in this restyling of #114. Many decisions get changed as we go along in a project and time passes. We learn new things, find different products, see other cars as the project progresses. I made a plan early and made my wiring harness over a year ago. Just now getting to connect up all the pieces.

Google "tweeter high pass filter" or "tweeter capacitor" for ideas. Crutchfield sells "Bass Blocker" caps. Much easier and cheaper to passively filter low frequencies out of a tweeter than filter highs out of a sub.

The end is near!

Its been a while since I posted anything on this car. Mostly just wrapping up small details.

The wiring is nearing completion. Soon I will put the dash in for the last time but not until I do the last few pieces of the carpeting.

Audio system is in a working. Ah yeah, six speakers and 2000 watts is a bit much *laugh*. Not a high dollar system but it sounds very nice and has plenty of volume to spare.

I have preregistered for the 2017 29th annual Bugjam on Nov 10th & 11th so I guess its crunch time.

I'll post a few low res photos just for the sake of posting.

Race for the finish line!

Just working on some odds and ends today. Got the last of the engine compartment painted and also painted the inside of the rear valance. Its nice to have only one plug for all the lights on the rear. Makes it easy to remove when needed, its work the extra effort to do it right.

Motor.

Got the motor back on the stand today. I'm hoping to get it running in the next few days. I am really hoping I don't have to rebuild the carbs before the show on Nov 10th. I did drain the fuel from them but they have been sitting for 2 plus years now. I'll know in the next day of so. Any way, just a few photos.

Shifter

Sometimes its the little things that didn't cost anything but a little time that make you smile the most.

Stock shifter, shortened and a little carbon fiber vinyl. Nothing at all fancy but I think it suits the interior well.

Lighting

Lighting in the overhead console is finally attached to the canopy. No more masking tape!

Switch has 2 positions. Red interior lighting to match all the lower lighting and second position is 3 white map lights.

Good news on the motor front, the carbs do not need a rebuild! After screwing around for a few minutes it fired right up. Readjusted the linkage a few times and it has a nice idle. Will still need a little tweeking of the mixture screws but I don't have balancers to work on these carbs. I'll get it worked out a little later. After all the paint etc burned off the new exhaust it was pretty much smoke free. The super trapp type muffler sounds really awesome! *rock on*

Day Time Running Lights

My DRL are just an inexpensive set from ebay that have the integrated turn signal / switch back feature. These were about $10 and work pretty nice.

Engine Compartment

Now that the motor is up and running again its time to get it installed. I finished up the engine compartment last night and also got the fuel tank bolted down and wired. Once the motor is in I will finish up the oil coolers and filter installation.

Back Up Camera

My back up camera is in and working great. I have it on a 3 position switch that allows me to turn it on with the back up sensor and reverse lights at the same time or just camera only. The monitor will be mounted to the windshield and raise up with the canopy. With the canopy closed it will be just left of the gauge pod like in the photos. The switch is out of sight just under the gauge on the left side of the steering wheel.

This was also an ebay purchase. I think the total cost was about $40. I originally thought I would do wireless but in the end choose to run the wires for one less thing that could go wrong.

Interior Lights

As mentioned before, the interior lighting is red LEDs. Its maybe a little corny but it looks so good. The interior and canopy are controlled separately. Reminds me of a jet cockpit. The gauges will also have red back lighting to reduce the glare in the windshield. The radio is the only thing I need to fix since it has green illumination. I'm going to try some rear tail light repair tape and see if that does the trick.

Does that mean you used a diode on the circuit so that when you switched to camera only it didn't light up the reverse lights?

Wow, and so much in common too, same firewall, same carbs, same monitors (I have two for my blind spot cameras), red interior LEDs (and blue underneath).

Installed Motor

Had some time this morning before work to get the motor installed.

I will be reworking the area where I had the oil cooler. Need to patch up the holes and start again. I bought a different sized cooler. Plans change when you are not looking! *insane*
