I can wait to start to start putting the car back together! I have 4 scoops and my rear spoiler to still paint but after that I should be just doing reassembly.

Looking very shiny indeed. Now for my regular questionWhat are those holes for.. the ones along the front edge of the body?

7 hours of nonstop color sanding yesterday. Sanded the skin off my thumb from holding the paper on the pad. Decided to stop when I was getting more blood then water on the paper! *eek!* *kicked my butt*
So far I can live with the little blems that I have found. The 2 little runs sanded out pretty easily and the dust nibs have all but gone away. Not perfection but will be a nice 10 footer. *hee-hee-hee*
Once I have the entire car sanded out and gone over with the cut pad and compound I will go back over the car and wet sand any area that needs extra attention. The orange peel is heavier in some areas more then others. I don't mind a little orange peel in the finish as I think it gives it a bit of a factory look. *insane* That's just me giving excuses for my paint work.
After I have gone back over everything the final step is a finish pad and 3M Finesse It polishing compound. Start to finish will be about 12 hours more or less. If I were only a better painter! *very frustrated*

Thats looking very nice, better than I could ever achieve *thumbs up*.....(err wait a minute I'm not a painter so I can't achieve anything when it comes to paint).
I forget what engine your running and too lazy to ready your whole thread....but surprised to see you are still running drum brakes at the rear

My original intentions were to just drive this car and work on my other Sterling.
I have only fixed what needed fixing mechanically, not made any improvements.
Car ran and stopped just fine with what it had, as do most Ghias and late model Beetles. So I didn't see a need to change the rear drum brakes.
Main focus is the body, interior and adding AC.
Motor is a mystery. I think Rick said it was a pretty stock dual port 1600. Other then dual carbs I don't know what if anything was done. It ran pretty good and I wouldn't be surprised if it had a bigger piston and cylinder kit added at some point.

It's actually a worked 1300 with a 1500 kit from the 'go-faster' days in the early '70's. Owner said that it has stainless valves, hardened valves seats and other items I can't recall. The carbs, if they are still DCNF's, were rebuilt by me when I got it since it had been sitting for almost 20 years previous. The original owner was an engineer and had his own in-house metal lathes, etc, so I was very confident the engine was done correctly. The engine never failed me in the time I owned the car.As for the paint... damn, son! For a garage job that looks better than some of the stuff I see locally here by 'pros' with proper paint booths. Looks great!

I find it hard to believe it was just a 1500, it seemed to have more spunk then that. (*hee-hee-hee* spunk, sounds like something my grandmother would say!) Carbs will still be your dcnf's since they fit so nicely under the deck and probably had something to do with how good it ran.

Yeah, running that engine was a blast. Still remember surprising a newer TransAm at a traffic light on Saturday morning.. ya know the kind.. them pulling forward, goosing the throttle... light changes and I left him behind by about a car length and a half for about an 1/8 of a mile. Then his cubic inches took over *laugh*

Got to spend a few hours in the garage this evening. Since my thumb is raw and my arms are still sore from 7 hours of wet sanding *whaah* I decided to give it a rest for a few days.
I spent some time starting to get my interior sorted. I got my seat back trimmed up and positioned and cut some new seat bases. The seat base will be raised on the front edge about 1" off the floor rather then flat as I originally thought. This kind of creates a bolstered effect. The seat back is also angled back a bit more then originally anticipated. After about an hour or so of fooling around with them I think I have found a pretty comfortable configuration.
I have to choose some materials for the interior carpets and rear shelf. Previously I purchased some marine carpet from HomeDepot which they are no longer carrying. This is fine since although its pretty nice stuff, it is hard to work with because how thick it is and its unwillingness to stretch and conform to shapes. There are better products out there which I will be ordering soon from my buddy who does upholstery.
I cut new rear shelf covers to suit my amp and speaker layout better. This is different from how I originally thought it was going to be. I got my fire extinguisher mounted in the passenger side pocket. The fire extinguisher was one of the reason for the side pocket redesign, that and I thought the originals were just too small to do anything with. The longer pocket will also be helpful on my other 2 cars for access to bolting the side pods on.

In other builds I have painted the fire extinguisher to match the body color of the car. I still may do that here if I have reason to shot body color again. It looks pretty cool when it matches and really catches people by surprise. But I may not since I am trying to make #114 look race car ish! *insane*

I got my floor pans lined this morning and started making my side panels out of the black marine carpet. I'll get everything figured out and cut this weekend so I can head up to my buddy's shop early next week to bind the edges. I need to get my own machine for doing upholstery.
I'm beginning to think I made a mistake with the top scoops as I have gotten rid of the only cup holders in the car. *idea didn't work*

Concentrated on all the panels that are glued down without bound edges. The panels that have the bound edges will overlap the others and hide the cut edge.
I'm so glad I painted the console and seats the body color. I think otherwise they would have gotten lost in the black abyss.

The holes in the tunnel will get buttoned back up before the final interior assembly! I still have plenty to do before that happens.
